Media logistics for June 9 Legislature v. Shipman oral arguments The Mississippi Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments for 10 a.m. June 9 in the Initiative 42 appeal Legislature v. Shipman, cause number 2015-TS-0605-SCT. The pool camera rule is not expected to be invoked. A Camera Coverage Notice is required 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE from any media wishing to photograph, record video, record audio, broadcast or webcast the oral arguments. The Camera Coverage Notice requirement will not be waived. The deadline for filing a Camera Coverage Notice is 5 p.m. Friday, June 5. The Camera Coverage Notice must be filed with both the Clerk of Courts and the Supreme Court Administrator. Media wishing to use cameras, laptops and other electronic devices will be seated in the balcony. Media credentials must be shown to bring electronic equipment into the balcony. The Supreme Court will provide an audio feed for media through a mult-box. The mult-box will accommodate only six users. It will be up to the media to provide equipment if more than six audio connections are needed. Media must have all equipment set up by 9:45 a.m. June 9. The courtroom doors will be closed at 10 a.m. There will be no coming and going in the courtroom while court is in session. Any equipment installation, cable runs, site surveys and other preparations should be completed on June 8, the day before the proceeding. If cables are to be utilized, all cables inside the building must be taped securely to the floor. There will be no exceptions. Broadcast and still camera coverage of oral arguments will be in accordance with the Supreme Court Rules for Electronic and Photographic Coverage of Judicial Proceedings. Spectators who are not members of the media are not permitted to photograph, videotape or record the proceedings via any other electronic means. Placards and signs are prohibited inside the courthouse. T-shirts with slogans and graphics that express a position with regard to the appeal will not be permitted inside the courtroom. Spectators should wear appropriate business attire. The Supreme Court is located at 450 High Street in Jackson. The building entrance is on the northeast side, off George Street. All spectators must go through the metal detector. Please plan to arrive in sufficient time to go through screening. The media logistics plan is subject to modification if changes are deemed necessary by the Court.
